Te Ariki connects with Dr Vincent O’Malley
11 June 2024
It was an incredible experience to connect and kōrero with Dr. Vincent O’Malley today. A highly respected historian, author, and educator, Dr. O’Malley has made significant contributions to our understanding of New Zealand's past.
His extensive body of work includes numerous books, with "The New Zealand Wars – Ngā Pakanga o Aotearoa" being particularly noteworthy. Additionally, his insightful commentary on the RNZ New Zealand land wars series, where he appears alongside Mihingarangi Forbes, has been instrumental in bringing these important historical events to a wider audience.
Our conversation spanned a variety of topics, from historical anecdotes to contemporary social issues. Dr. O’Malley shared fascinating insights into his research process and the challenges of bringing historical truths to light. We found common ground in our belief that mutual respect and understanding are essential for driving positive social reform.
It was inspiring to hear his thoughts on how history can inform and shape our approach to modern-day issues, fostering a more inclusive and informed society. One of the highlights of our meeting was having the opportunity to get some of his books signed. I’m excited to share this experience with others and might even do a giveaway to spread the knowledge and inspiration further.
I am deeply grateful for the chance to ask questions, engage in meaningful dialogue, and learn from such a distinguished figure. The kōrero with Dr. O’Malley has enriched my understanding and motivated me to continue exploring the complex narratives that shape our world. Thank you for this invaluable opportunity to grow and expand my horizons.
Grateful for the opportunity…
